National Food Sharing System (NFSS)
This program is run by Food Banks Canada (FBC)
How it works:
Large food manufacturers such as Kraft Canada, Kelloggs, Canada Dry Motts, General Mills, P&G, Pfanner and many more, donate large quantities of food to FBC.
FBC distributes the food to provincial associations according to the hunger count that is done on a yearly basis. The provincial associations then distribute the food to member food banks throughout their province according to the hunger count.
Because of the vastness of BC, FBBC has 4 main hubs:
- The Chilliwack Food Bank covers the Lower Mainland
- The Mustard Seed Food Bank in Victoria covers the Island
- The Vernon Food Bank covers the Interior
- The 100 Mile House Food Bank covers Northern BC
These hubs then distribute the food to the food banks in their area.
